Understanding Stormwater and Our Watershed in Indian Wells

Stormwater is rain that flows over surfaces like roofs and roads. As it travels, the runoff water picks up pollutants such as debris, chemicals, and pet waste.

All this runoff in Indian Wells enters our storm drains and flows directly into the Whitewater River Watershed. A watershed is an area where all water drains to a common point. For us, that means our stormwater eventually reaches the Whitewater River and then the Salton Sea.

As a regulatory agency, the City of Indian Wells manages stormwater to protect water quality and public health. The Engineering Division provides regulatory review and compliance services for clean water run off regulation. Keeping our stormwater clean is vital for our environment and community. Please see flyers below on how you can help keep our stormwater clean.
