Cook Street Rubberized Pavement Overlay/Rehabilitation Project
In November 2017, the City received a grant from the California Department of Resources, Recycling, and Recovery (CalRecycle) to use rubberized pavement (asphalt rubber hot mix - ARHM) for the reconstruction and overlay of Cook Street from Highway 111 to Fred Waring Drive. The project consisted of full-width cold milling, asphalt rubber hot mix overlay, detector loop replacements, utility adjustments to grade, and striping.
While construction was initially scheduled to last approximately thirty-five (35) days, the project was completed in September 2018, two weeks ahead of schedule. By using rubberized pavement, the project diverted approximately 3,181 California waste tires (or passenger tire equivalents) from the waste stream.
