Dear Indian Wells Residents,
Tennis season is officially here, and the energy in Indian Wells is palpable! The City is thrilled to welcome the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament to our community this week, running until March 15. This event brings Indian Wells much pride every year, and we eagerly anticipate the excitement that lies ahead.
Resident Day during the tournament will take place on Thursday, March 5. It is always a joy to watch thrilling tennis matches with you, and we can’t wait to see those of you who purchased tickets for one of the most exciting events of the year.
During this time, traffic congestion may occur near the Indian Wells Tennis Garden as attendees arrive and depart from the tournament. Thank you for your patience as the City experiences this seasonal increase in visitors throughout the month. Tourism remains the primary source of revenue for Indian Wells, and the BNP Paribas Open is a premier event that generates significant economic activity for our resorts, hotels and local businesses.
City staff have been diligently working to balance the needs of our tourists while also addressing the top priorities of our residents. Notably, Indian Wells is in active communication with the Palm Springs Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after residents and City officials submitted noise complaints regarding the new landing flight pattern. In partnership with the Palm Springs Airport Noise Committee, we’re working steadfastly to address the issue of increased noise. In January, the Committee received 175 noise complaints from Indian Wells residents, and we’re committed to finding a solution. Our City Council is working diligently with the Palm Springs Airport Commission and the FAA to address resident concerns. We have also met with Congressman Ken Calvert’s Office to advocate on behalf of the community on this matter. To report further noise complaints, please fill out the FAA Aviation Noise Complaint and Inquiry Response form.
