The City of Indian Wells announces a temporary moratorium on tree trimming enforcement, effective immediately through the end of September. Residents and businesses in Indian Wells will not be required to trim their palm trees by July 30. However, property owners are still responsible for cleaning up any fruit/dates that drop on the ground – which continue to be considered a nuisance per Section 8.08.060 (aa)(3) and will continue to be enforced as normal. The City Council will review and consider modifications to the City’s tree trimming ordinance to incorporate Best Management Practices (BMPs) while ensuring compliance with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and other applicable state and federal wildlife protections.
