The City of Indian Wells is governed by a five-member City Council elected at large by the voters of Indian Wells during General Municipal Elections. General Municipal Elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years. Council Members serve staggered four-year terms, with elections conducted citywide every two years to fill expiring seats.

The office of Mayor is not directly elected by the voters. Instead, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem are appointed annually by the City Council from among its members pursuant to the City's voter-approved mayoral rotation process.

Qualified for Candidacy: 

  • Be a registered voter and reside within the jurisdiction at the time nomination papers are issued
  • Reside in the district in which you are running for Council seats
  • A citizen of the United States
  • 18 years of age or older

Nomination Filing Period

The nomination period closed on August 12, 2026.

The City of Indian Wells General Municipal Election will be held on November 3, 2026. The election is for two (2) Council Member at-large seats, all serve a four-year term.

City of Indian Wells Signs on City Property and Right of Way

Campaign signs are not allowed on City property or within the public right of way, including streets, parks, medians, landscaping, City facilities, poles, or utility boxes.

The City may remove and dispose of improperly placed signs without notice and is not liable for any damage or loss.
