Joslyn Center Sept. /Oct. Activities

Free Fitness Classes for seniors! Early morning aerobics, calisthenics, and Fit After 50 classes are free of charge to seniors. These popular fitness classes happen throughout the week at the Joslyn Center. Call or visit our new website for class times at www.joslyncenter.org 

Let’s Do Lunch – 1st and 3rd Tuesday of Every Month, 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM. Homebound seniors who are isolated are at greater risk of accelerated physical, mental and emotional impairment. The Let’s Do Lunch! program is designed to decrease isolation and increase mental stimulation by providing isolated seniors with twice monthly activities outside their home. Programs are designed to encourage seniors to interact with other participants to foster socialization. Activities include light exercises, discussion groups, informative workshops, films and entertainment by community artists. The Let’s Do Lunch! program is designed to decrease isolation and increase mental stimulation by providing for isolated seniors with twice monthly activities held at senior centers and senior apartment complexes.  By engaging in activities outside their home, seniors experience greater self-esteem and the opportunity to gain meaningful friendships.

Penny’s Pantry – 1st and 3rd Friday, 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM. Since its inception in November 2011, our food pantry has and continues to serve thousands of low income seniors each year with non-perishable foods and fresh produce. Penny’s Pantry is located on The Joslyn Center campus. Those receiving food are asked to be 50 years of age and above, live within one of the Cove Community Cities: City of Indian Wells, City of Palm Desert, and City of Rancho Mirage, and complete a brief questionnaire. If you would like to help us stock the pantry, please go to our website www.joslyncenter.org “Social & Health Services” and print Penny's Pantry Donation List of Needs the next time you go shopping.  

Live Well With Low Vision - Braille Institute Rancho Mirage is offering free classes to help people living with vison loss to continue to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Free transportation on Mondays, from The Joslyn Center. Starting September 11th, call now to register 760-321-1111.

The iconic Miles Bates house in Palm Desert is in Danger of Destruction.  Learn more about Architect Walter S. White's unique wave-roofed home designed and constructed for Miles Bates in 1955.  Professor Welter will discuss the significance of this architect's work in the Coachella Valley and the history of the house and White's client, Miles Bates.  A tour of the un-restored home will follow the presentation.
