Girl Scouts Coachella Valley Service Area to Assist Physically Challenged

February 8, 2008

INDIAN WELLS (CA)  – The Girl Scouts from the Coachella Valley Service Area are excited to assist those homeowners who are physically unable to pick citrus from their trees. They have committed to picking the fruit and transporting it to the City of Indian Wells’ Citrus Collection Site.  The Girl Scouts are proud to be connected with this project and its environmental benefits.  They are committed to providing this important community service effort to help Coachella Valley homeowners give their edible, nutritious fruits to the area’s most needy.

You can help provide a nutritious food source for your neighbors in need by donating the extra or unwanted fruit from your trees during the City of Indian Wells’ second Annual Citrus Collection. For assistance from the Girls Scouts, please contact Michelle Penn (760) 345-1703.

Citrus will be accepted from now through April 30, simply pick the extra or unwanted fruit from your trees and drop your donations in the collection boxes located outside the Emergency Operations Center next to City Hall.

Hidden Harvest, an innovative produce recovery program, will pick the fruit up regularly to distribute to individuals and families in the Coachella Valley. Last year Hidden Harvest collected more than 65 tons of produce thanks to the generosity of the Valley community.

For more information about the Citrus Collection, call City Hall at (760) 346-2489. For more information about Hidden Harvest, call (760) 398-8183 or visit www.hiddenharvest.org.
